Ceris Consulting worked with the team in Zimbabwe, Marondera to help them reach the ETI (Ethical Trading) standard to enable them to export fresh produce to Europe and the UK. This project entailed full internal and GAP analysis audits to establish the areas of weakness within the current systems, training of employees in what ETI was and the importance of it throughout the supply chain, improving on the employee engagement from top management down and working with the UK supermarkets to gain back their trust in Zimbabwe. We successfully managed to complete and pass the ETI audit and in turn began exporting vegetable and fruit to the UK for the first time in many years.

Conseguimos concluir e passar na auditoria da ETI e, por sua vez, começamos a exportar vegetais e frutas para o Reino Unido pela primeira vez em muitos anos.

Westfalia acquired 398 hectares of land in Mozambique to establish Westfalia Fruto Moçambique, which has begun development of Hass and Carmen®-Hass avocado orchards. Ceris Consulting preformed the ESIA (Environmental and Social Impact Assessment) needed for the project to begin. The assessment was performed in line with the IFC’s Performance Standards that are internationally recognised to ensure Environmental and Social awareness and compliance along the timeline of any project. The performance standards focus on the key areas of sustainable development; Risk management, labour, Resource efficiency, community, land resettlement, biodiversity, Indigenous people and cultural heritage. 

Ceris Consulting has worked with Agdevco, who is a social impact investor and project developer working in the African agriculture sector. The company supports small and medium-sized enterprises involved in farming, agriprocessing, and logistics, with the aim of creating jobs and income-earning opportunities for African farmers. Ceris consulting has provided support and assistance to their clients in the form of internal audits, ESIA reports, HACCP implementation, and general support.

“Ceris Consulting undertook an Environmental, Social and Governance review of our retail operations and egg-laying business. The operation was small and owner-managed and required practical solutions that could be implemented to ensure the required guidelines and standards would be met as the business expanded. The companies are based in Mozambique, so there are added challenges to consider. We are now 18 months into the expansion program and have put into practice what was suggested in the report which has satisfied our external investor requirements. In addition to the report content, other background information provided, which is still relevant and useful as a reference point when required.”

After the devastating Cyclone IDAI hit Beira in March 2019, Ceris Consulting assisted a school feeding project run by a Mozambique based company Plataforma Makobo and supported by the World Central Kitchen. The program provided hot school meals to rural schools based on the outskirts of Beira, where the effects of IDAI were felt the most. Makobo is a collaborative platform with a mission to provide and promote services aiming to improve welfare for disadvantaged groups. Through individual and corporate support, continuous effective planning, we search for a sustainable way to contribute to the social, cultural and economic development of the country. Ceris Consulting helped with setting up a ticket system to be used in the schools and assisted in the data collection of biometric data to enable assessment of the impact of the project. We also trained the volunteers on how to accurately collect the data themselves and aided with general support when needed.
